On to our new adventures

This term we are all, throughout the school, embracing adventure! Already we have met and worked with new teachers or new children – that is adventure enough, but we have also embarked on new learning and new challenges.  It has been a very busy start to the year and it is hard to believe that school has been back for only 3 weeks.

Last week, Foxes and Badgers took off on their own adventure to Dorset Water Park.  A morning of leaping from inflatable to inflatable, or falling into water, was followed by an afternoon of mud.  Mud, mud and more mud.  It was all about trying something new, challenging yourself and helping each other.  Throughout the day, every child supported others through offering encouraging words, giving advice, grasping hands or life jackets.  Some people may have felt that it was just a fun day out, but no.  Yes, it was the launch of our project to give us an understanding of what adventuring is and help us grasp what the qualities of an adventurer are.  Alongside that though, it also developed our social skills, our sense of togetherness.  We teachers were surprised at the bravery of the children; the children were surprised to find their teachers had a human side.  what a wonderful start to what promises to be a very exciting year at Heathlands Primary Academy.
